FLIT VALLEY WALK

smacap_Bright

The Flit Valley Walk follows the River Flit through its quiet valley, rich in history and wildlife, a rare gem in the Greensand Country landscape.

The 7.5 mile route introduces you to some of the wonders to be found along the Flit, from peat bogs and ancient woodland to the stories told by historic buildings such as Flitwick Mill and Flitwick Manor, and archaeological finds.

The Town Council has been working in partnership with the Greensand Country Landscape Partnership to develop the walk and encourage people to go outdoors and explore the wonderful countryside in the area.

Phase one of the route takes you on a self guided trial from Westoning to Silsoe using footpaths on existing Rights of Way. Here you’ll find interpretation boards with information on the wide variety of wildlife and flora and fauna you can see. You’ll also learn more about the fascinating history of the area.

As you explore the route, you’ll also be able to spot some amazing wooden sculptures like the jumping fox in Manor Park, which have been created by Sculpture Artist, Ian Freemantle.

Along the way you can visit the Flit Valley Discovery Centre located at Jack Crawley Memorial Barn, Brook Lane, Flitton, MK45 5EJ (300m NW of Flitton Church).

We very grateful to the team of volunteers, and local organisations, who have been working with us to deliver this exciting project.
