Question: Who can be a foster carer? Answer: Almost anyone!
Many people don’t apply as they assume they'll not be suitable, but people are often surprised by who can foster. People of all different ages, cultures, ethnicities, religions, sexualities and marital status’ can foster.
The key things we require of you are:
* A spare room which will be used solely by the foster child.
* A willingness to commit to learning and developing the skills needed to be a reflective, empathetic foster carer who understands the impact of early life trauma. Training is an essential part of the fostering role.
* A willingness to engage in the fostering assessment process.
* An ability to bounce back when a child needs you the most.
* Undergo a health assessment to confirm you are fit and well enough to carry out the role.
* Have an enhanced DBS disclosure to be carried out to confirm you are safe to work with children.
* An understanding of the importance of supporting a child’s journey, education, growth and family connections.
* Appreciate and understand it can be a very challenging role....but also an extremely rewarding one!
Oak Fostering is a therapeutic fostering agency which offers specialist long term foster placements and tailor made outreach support for children aged 0 - 18 years. Formed with the aim that all children deserve a family where they experience permanence, a sense of belonging and trust that this will remain their home into adulthood, regardless of anything they might do.

Our team understand the challenges of offering unconditional love and care to a traumatised child and therefore use a different approach to other fostering agencies. We recognise the children within our service may not always fit naturally into a family setting - so we approach recruitment, matching and placement support differently.
We recruit and train our specialist foster carers specifically to care for children who have experienced trauma and aren't able to remain living with their families. As a result of the trauma they have suffered, many of the children we care for have a range of needs and display challenging behaviours.
Support
Unlike other fostering agencies, the children we match and place with our carers are children we have cared for and know inside out. We've laughed and cried with them, dealt with their challenges, built memories and supported them on their journey. This enables us to match placements in a more informed way. Our carers are given extensive histories, knowledge of triggers and strategies as well as first hand examples of the child’s behaviours, personality and interests.
We're passionate about not offering a one size fits all approach to support. We tailor make our support packages to work for the individual foster family. We recognise this is a challenging role and we take our responsibility to support you with it seriously.

Family Fun Day 2024
Last year's Flitwick Family Fun Day on Saturday 8th June was a great success. The the sun shone throughout the day attracting thousands of visitors to Millennium Park to enjoy the free Fun Fair Rides, Free Outdoor Cinema, Food Court, stalls and much more.
