Flitwick Community Fridge | Partnerships & Referrals
Note: This page is intended for partners who want to use our service to support their service users or other vulnerable people, including social care practitioners, healthcare professionals and social prescribers.
We are not a food bank; however, our supported tier lets us prioritise households on low incomes or those finding it hard to eat well. We do not receive funding from Central Bedfordshire Council or the NHS. Our work is funded by Flitwick Town Council and by donations to the Flitwick Town Mayor's Charity; local charity partners generously donate the majority of our food.
Our service is intended for people living in Flitwick, Ampthill and the nearby villages within the Mid Bedfordshire parliamentary constituency. Households from outside the area can still visit, but we encourage them to use projects closer to home when possible. The Supported tier is only available to households living within Mid Bedfordshire.
Partnering with us
We implemented a membership scheme in August 2025 to ensure fairness and prioritise access for households on low incomes or struggling to eat well. This has worked well for us, but an unintended consequence was that this prevented staff from partner agencies and charities from collecting food on behalf of their service users. We have taken your feedback and amended our rules to address this, and you'll find information on this page.
Please get in touch with our Community Services Officer, Sue Quinn, by email if you'd like to sign up as a partner

Collecting on behalf of someone you're supporting
We believe in the importance of relational working to ensure we provide appropriate support for our families. Partners are vital to the success of this approach. We ask that you let us know if your organisation is collecting on behalf of one of our members, so we can record this in our CRM and ensure our volunteers are aware of the relationship.
You need to email us to let us know you'll be collecting. Please include the lead member's name, the address, and a summary of what you need. We'll then link the household account to your organisation, and you can then collect. We aim to respond within 24 hours, but please note our coordinator does not work on Mondays.
If it's a new account: you'll need to fill in our membership form on behalf of the lead member and select your organisation from the dropdown list before emailing. We will activate the account and provide a membership card without the member needing to show proof of address.
If it's an existing account: email us to link the household to your organisation.
Important points for you to note
- Unless the household you're supporting qualifies for our supported tier, your representative will be asked for a minimum donation of £1 on each visit.
- Your representative will be asked to show ID showing that they work or volunteer for your organisation (they will be turned away without it)
- Our Wednesday morning session is only accessible to supported tier households, so you can only collect if the household you are supporting qualifies.
