NEW LEASE AGREEMENT SECURES FUTURE FOR FLITWICK SCOUT GROUP

Flitwick Scout Group has secured the Group’s future for generations by signing a new lease agreement with the Town Council which includes additional land to allow the group to extend the building.
The Group currently provides a range of activities for over 250 young people from 4 to 18. This new lease secures the space for the growing Scout Group for the next 20 years and will enable the group to offer even better facilities in the future.

Commenting on the agreement, Town Mayor, Cllr Andy Snape said: “We are delighted that we have been able to finalise the lease agreement for Flitwick Scout Group, providing future security and extra space for the group to expand the support it offers young people in the town.”

Responding to the signing of the agreement Darren Reeve, Lead Volunteer for the Scout Group said: “This is a fantastic step forward for the Scout Group here in Flitwick. We have over 250 young people enjoying Scouting in Flitwick and have another 100 Young People asking to join. This additional land will enable us to provide better facilities which will aid the expansion of the Group and let us provide more activities to more young people. We have a lot of hard work to do to raise the money now to build those facilities but we are confident with the help of the people of Flitwick that we can do it!”
Fencing will be erected around the new area next week, and part of the agreement is for additional planting to reduce the impact of the extended building and to provide enhanced habitats for wildlife. Plans for the extra space include an extension to the existing hall and a store for the Scout’s equipment.
Flitwick Town Council recognises that residents value the open space at Station Road, and the Council is committed to preserving the significant remaining green space at this site. The mature tree at the front of the site will be protected, as will the remaining hedgerow.
The Scout Group is now busy fundraising to improve its premises and has plans to start a new troop. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with the group, details at www.flitwickscoutgroup.org.uk
Flitwick Town Council provides financial support to several community organisations by leasing land to Flitwick Scout Group, the Royal British Legion, Flitwick Guides and Flitwick & Ampthill Sea Cadets at no cost. The total value of this annual financial support was assessed to be £7,000 at the last asset review carried out by a chartered surveyor in 2021.
